Crew

Thank you for your interest in being part of backstage crew! There are a variety of roles available and all are just as critical as the roles that are in the spotlight on the stage performing. No previous experience is necessary and we will provide training for you to be successful and comfortable in your role on crew. Whether you’re a seasoned crew member or you’ve never been backstage before, we encourage you to sign up!

AVAILABLE CREW POSITIONS

STAGE CREW
Stage crew is responsible for the technical scenic elements of productions. This role includes preparing for the show (presetting scenic elements, sweeping/mopping the stage, etc.) During the performances, they are responsible for moving scenic elements for scene shifts. The stage crew will also assist with props and coordinate closely with the Assistant Stage Manager.

PROPS CREW
Props crew is responsible for the elements of props and furniture. They make sure that the props are preset before the show, assist actors in the coordination of props, and assist in scene changes.

RAIL CREW
The rail crew operates the fly system during a show. They are responsible for fly in/out of scenery or curtains at varying speeds with precision. Since this position works with large amounts of weight and from great heights, safety is of the utmost importance.

WARDROBE CREW
Wardrobe crew is responsible for the care and maintenance of all the finished costumes. They make sure that the costumes are prepped and ready before the cast arrives, provide assistance to the actors in dressing rooms and backstage, help with minor repairs, and assist with costume changes. At the end of the night, they launder the costumes appropriately according to the Costume Designer and Costume Shop Manager.

FOLLOW SPOT OPERATORS
Follow spot operators are responsible for controlling the follow spots based on the artistic and creative concept of the lighting design. Follow spots are specialized lighting instruments designed to follow performers or movements on stage. Operators work with the Lighting Designer who will provide guidance.

LIGHT BOARD OPERATOR
The light board operator is responsible for operating the light board for the show. They will trigger light cues during technical rehearsals and performances. Throughout the process, they will learn about light cues and how to use the board from the Lighting Designer.

QLAB OPERATOR
The QLab Operator is responsible for operating the multimedia playback software, known as QLab, for the show. They will be triggering sound cues during technical rehearsals and performances. Throughout the process, they will learn their cues and how to use the program from the Sound Designer.
