In this time of shelter-in-place many of us are looking for ways to stretch our creative muscles and connect with each other, so GREAT has developed programming for The Virtual Lab. Read on to learn about our “Live from the Lab” events  and stay tuned for upcoming virtual programming!

E-CABARET: GROUP CHALLENGE | May 15 – Watch here!

Featuring songs from classic productions such as “Mary Poppins” and “Les Miserables” to more contemporary hits from shows like “Six” and “Dear Evan Hansen” we asked members of the community to join forces with 3 or more friends or family members, near or far, to record their favorite group number.

THE SHOW MUST GO ONLINE: The Brothers Grimm | May 8 – Watch here!

Revisit GREAT Theatre’s 2010 production of The Brothers Grimm: A Musical Adventure. Special thanks to Mariénne for permission to live stream this production.

One of our goals with this project was to include everyone with an interest in it. We had three unique casts who rehearsed for two weeks playing with language, interpreting Shakespeare, and connecting with fellow performers, and then we compiled their performance into one show.

THE SHOW MUST GO ONLINE: GREAT’s PETER PAN | April 28 – Watch here!

Revisit Neverland through GREAT Theatre’s original production of Peter Pan which premiered in 2014 in partnership with Fine Arts Programming at CSB/SJU.

TECHSIDE CHAT: MAMMA MIA |  April 24 – Watch here!

The production team of GREAT’s Mamma Mia called in from across the country to talk about the upcoming production and to answer community questions!

E-CABARET: BEST OF BROADWAY | April 17 – Watch here!

Audiences joined us on Friday, April 17 as GREAT community members shared their talents through favorite Broadway songs! From The Sound of Music to Les Miserables to The Spongebob Musical there’s something for everyone in this E-Cabaret. Check it out on GREAT’s YouTube channel.

DISNEY SPECTACULAR (Youth) | April 10 – Watch here!

Audiences tuned in to GREAT’s YouTube channel and for “Live from the Lab” on April 10 at 7pm to see youth perform in a Disney Spectacular! We asked youth ages 5 through 18 to submit a video of them singing one of six iconic Disney tunes and they did not disappoint! From the deepest reaches of the ocean to the Fjords of Norway – you are sure to sing and dance along!

The joy of theatre continues with the debut of GREAT’s first Script-In-Screen, a short production rehearsed and performed–in less than a week–via Zoom technology. This first digital sharing, William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, was streamed live Friday, April 3 at 7pm. Watch a recording of the YouTube live!

Said Miron, “That we’re bringing this to our [virtual] stage, right now, in this format is just and good and is something to be celebrated! It is good to hear these ancient words spoken aloud and to remember all of the crises humanity has overcome in the 400 years since Shakespeare lived. These words, this certain joy, laughter and fellowship endure.”
