“I learned that you can love more than just one aspect of theatre! It’s such a nice feeling!”
Though she originally wanted the role of director, Grecia Lopez is very happy that she accepted the position of costume designer for Charlotte’s Web. Her mother was a costume seamstress and said she thought “it would be cool to kind of follow in her footsteps a little bit”.
In the past Grecia has participated in GREAT summer camps including the Hamiltion Intensive and Legally Blonde camps for high school students. She was also in GREAT’s productions of Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Alice and Wonderland. Currently a senior at Tech High School, Grecia has been in several of her school’s productions including playing the role Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family. And now Grecia joins five other high school student artists as a designer for Charlotte’s Web which debuts via livestream April 30th and May 1st!
Much of the design process has been done virtually, meeting with her mentor and the rest of the production team on Zoom. She recounts that it is “nice to have a group of people that are learning and growing with you…it’s nice to know that I am not the only one that feels clueless sometimes.” She also conveys her appreciation for production teams saying,
“I learned just how hard they work. Being an actor shows you don’t really pay attention to anyone else’s job. You just memorize your lines and that’s it.”
This opportunity has helped Grecia realize that this role is more complex than she initially thought stating, “I thought it was just picking costumes but there is so much more detail to it and that’s where I have fun- the creativity of it”.
