The true story of one woman’s quest to find her place in the universe

A decade before women could vote and during a time of immense scientific discoveries, 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt wasn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea when she began work at the Harvard Observatory. In her free time, she measured the light and distance of stars and made important discoveries about their fluctuating brightness – ultimately enabling fellow scientists to map the Milky Way and beyond.  This inspiring drama explores the determination, passion and sacrifice of the women who transformed the science of astronomy and redefined our understanding of the cosmos.

“Sheer magic with bursts of smart, infectious humor.”

The Helgeson Learning Lab Theatre brings audiences closer to the stories being told. Located in Waite Park (next to Crafts Direct), it’s an intimate space that puts you within feet from the stage and actors – with the same high quality sets, costumes, and acting you have come to expect from GREAT.

I love the intimate setting and the variety of theatrical experiences are like no other.

Featuring state-of-the-art theatrical lighting and sound in an adaptable and flexible space, each experience is unique. For Silent Sky, it will be transformed into the Harvard Observatory – where the groundbreaking discoveries of Henrietta Levitt took place – with seating on all four sides.

Understudy Performance | Saturday, March 16th at 2pm

Understudies are relatively new to GREAT. Over the past couple of seasons we’ve been incorporating the practice of understudies, working on refining and revising the process based on previous experiences as well as each show’s individual needs. Whether it’s illness, injury, family emergencies, or one of the many unpredictable things thrown our way– life happens. But the show must go on, right? Having understudies helps cast members feel they truly have an option to take care of themselves.

For this performance of Silent Sky, we are showcasing the work of our understudies. We hope you enjoy their fresh take on the characters and dedication to the process of making live theatre!

Tickets for the understudy performance are Pick-Your-Price
